WHO DO THEY THINK WE ARE?

Shortly after Pearl Harbor, Winston Churchill came over and addressed Congress. He asked, rhetorically, “Who do they think we are?”

It was an important question, because we must understand what our enemies think about us. Churchill’s implicit answer was, “They think we’re suckers, and they think we won’t be able to beat them.”

The Fascists and Nazis believed that we had become soft and effeminate, that we were so hooked on materialism and self-indulgence that they, the representatives of a younger, more virile, and more spiritually robust races and nations would easily dominate us and impose their will on us. (more…)

SYRIA IN THE GUNSIGHTS

The argument for taking out the government of Syria is growing by the day. The only things holding back the Marines from seizing downtown Damascus and imprisoning Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad as a war criminal are (a) the lack of manpower to prevent the place from collapsing into anarchic chaos before a transition government can be set up, and (b) the literally hysterical objections of the State Department.

Consider these justifications, any one of which would be reason alone to rid Syria of the al-Assad pestilence:

· Syria has a 600-mile border with Iraq. Al-Assad is orchestrating the insertion of (more…)

ANSWERS TO READER’S EMAILS

I’ve received a number of emails, all complimentary. I thank the readers for that. I’d like to go a step farther. My column isn’t read by every subscriber to ToThePoint. My writing needs to be tuned to those who do read my column. So please email me about what you like and don’t like. Are the columns too long, or too short? Too technical or too basic?

I can’t answer the questions that subscribers have emailed me. It’d take all my time. Some questions are so wed to the user’s installation that I’d have to be at the computer to (more…)

THE PROBLEM OF STATE

Historians and commentators often refer to “The Reagan Doctrine” as the policy or strategy of “The Reagan Administration” to support anti-Soviet freedom fighters and dismantle the Soviet Empire. The reality was that there was a continual war within the Reagan Administration between advocates of the Reagan Doctrine and those opposed to it — bitterly and rabidly.

Take what has become the most famous speech of the Reagan Presidency, delivered by Ronald Reagan at the Brandenberg Gate in West Berlin on June 12, 1987 — famous for containing the now-legendary line:

“General Secretary Gorbachev, if you seek peace, if you seek (more…)

THE FRAGILITY OF TERRORISM

A prediction we hear often regarding the War on Moslem Terrorism is that it is going to last a long, long time — for so many years into the future that no one can see the end of it.

Maybe it will. Maybe it will be a war our grandchildren will be fighting when they’re our age. But no analysis of the war shows that it must be this way. It’s just a prediction, one which could turn out to be dramatically wrong. It’s entirely possible that the War on Moslem Terrorism could be won quickly.

When I began giving (more…)

PEACE IN IRAQ REQUIRES REGIME CHANGE IN IRAN

Much is being made about the irony of an Iranian envoy arriving in Iraq to help negotiate a solution to the U.S. standoff with radical Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr. How could we allow a charter member of President Bush’s “Axis of Evil” to negotiate a “peace” with the thuggish Sadr and his band of fanatical militants?

Indeed, the irony is as thick as Sadr’s own beard. But the fact that Iran holds sway over him and other Shiite militants in Iraq should surprise no one. Despite repeated denials by the State Department, it is an open secret throughout the Middle (more…)

THE REAL DIFFERENCE BETWEEN IRAQ AND VIETNAM

Be very clear what Ted Kennedy means when he shouts, “Iraq is George Bush’s Vietnam!” The Chappaquidick Kid is really saying that he wants Iraq to be another Vietnam. He wants America to lose.

Liberals always want America to lose. That’s what makes them liberals. No matter who it is, Castro, the Sandinistas, the Viet Cong, any folks sufficiently anti-American, liberals are on their side. Ann Coulter wrote a whole book about it, Treason.

As every objective commentator and historian has noted, America won the Vietnam War militarily but lost it politically. Perhaps the most famous example is the (more…)

CROATIA BOOM UPDATE

To update you on the Freedom Research Foundation delegation to Croatia with Congressman George Radonovich, June 26-July 3:

By the end of April, the Croatian government expects to announce the commencement of negotiations for Croatia’s joining the EU. This commits Croatia to raise and spend vast sums to bring Croatia’s infrastructure — roads, bridges, airports, ports, etc. — up to EU minimums.

This includes completing The Adriatic Highway from Trieste, Italy to the Croatian port of Riyeka, along the entire Dalmatian Coast, along the coasts of Montenegro and Albania, to connect with the Greek highway to Athens. It includes major (more…)

KERRY+HILLARY? FORGET IT.

There was an arresting line in a recent AP article speculating on Kerry’s VP choices: that he would need to pick a running mate with less charisma than him. That’s a very tall order. Kerry is Algore without the charm. How is it humanly possible to have less charisma, less electric star-power, than Torricelli John? You can immediately see why Hillary can’t be on the ticket. She’d outshine him like the sun does the moon.

My buddy Dennis Beck told me a funny story once, about his brother winning an Academy Award (for special effects). He was on the stage, (more…)

JEWISH DONORS ABANDONING DEMOCRATIC PARTY?

President Bush scored a triple whammy with his meeting with Ariel Sharon, announcing that the Palestinians can forget about the so-called Right of Return and seizing all of the so-called West Bank.

1. Bush was announcing to the Arab world that since it is not helping him in Iraq, he is going to ignore their concerns regarding “Palestine.”

2. He was announcing to the Palestinians that as long as they choose to have thugs and terrorists like Arafat and Hamas as their leaders, he will ignore their concerns.

3. And he announced to the Democratic Party that he is going (more…)

Typing Up Loose Ends

Last week’s column ended with methods to ignore low threat intruders, rather than delete them and risk damaging your computer. We learned how to ensure that Ad-watch opens each time we reboot so that the intruders will have a more difficult time invading our computers.

Still, we’re left with cookies that pop-up advertisements while we’re surfing, Windows registry entries that direct emails enticing us to click potentially dangerous attachments or web sites, and possibly more.

The accumulation of registry entries slows your computer. The registry becomes larger and fragmented.

I’ll introduce a few new tools to mitigate some of these (more…)

Ignorance or Dishonesty? Casualties and the Liberal Media

On Wednesday, April 7, 2004, the Washington Post ran this headline:

U.S. Forces Take Heavy Losses As Violence Spreads Across Iraq
About a Dozen Marines Killed; Foreigners, Scores of Iraqis Die

To the fathers, mothers, wives, brothers, and children of the Marines who died, the losses are the heavy indeed. There is nothing so precious as the blood of our soldiers, Marines, airmen, sailors, and civilians who willingly lay their lives on the line in service to their country. We can never replace them, and we must always remember them.

Nevertheless, I am angered at the sensationalist journalism that would (more…)

From Tyranny To Freedom in Iraq

Recent acts of barbarism against Coalition forces in Iraq have revived an old and enormously important debate: Are these terrorists the products of fanatic tyrannies, or are the tyrannies the logical expression of the true nature of the peoples of the region?

This is not an academic exercise, for many argue that our foreign policy depends on the answer. If we believe that the barbarism is the result of the likes of Saddam Hussein and the Iranian mullahs, then the war against terrorism should concentrate on regime change.

Once the tyrants are removed, the terrorists will be deprived of their (more…)

THE PRO-AMERICA VIP INVESTMENT EUROPEAN VACATION

Quiz time. What country has the most pro-America government in all of Europe? What country offers the best investment opportunities in the whole of the European continent? What country has the most spectacularly beautiful and untouched coastline along the entire Mediterranean?

The answer to all three is: Croatia.

You probably know of the famous Dalmatian Coast on the Adriatic Sea across from Italy, with the extravagant palace of Roman Emperor Hadrian at Split and the breathtaking medieval city of Dubrovnik. You may recall the devastating war the Croatians had to fight against the Serbs to gain their freedom during the (more…)

How to counteract intruders that dial porn sites

The week before last I discussed a class of intruders known interchangeably as Adware, Spyware and Malware. At the end of the column I introduced a particularly insidious subset of these intruders known as ‘dialers’. This week we’ll learn how to deal with dialers. There are a number of choices, depending on how much work you want to do, how adept you are around a computer, and the severity of the threat.

To get the most out of today’s column, I hope you’ll reread that column. Simply click Dennis the Wizard in the left-hand frame on the TTP home page, (more…)
