THE NUMBER ONE DANGER TO THE WORLD TODAY

Last April, famed theoretical physicist Haim Harari, Chairman of the Davidson Institute of Science Education and former president (1988-2001) of the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel, gave a speech entitled “View from the Eye of the Storm.” It is a fascinating discursion by a brilliant mind on the conflict between Western Civilization and Islam.

The key quote we’ll focus on is this:

The number one danger to the world today is Iran and its regime. It definitely has ambitions to rule vast areas and to expand in all directions. It has an ideology, which claims supremacy over Western culture. (more…)

FINESSING IRAN: DANGEROUSLY STUPID

Abu Musab al Zarqawi, born Ahmad al Khalayla in Jordan, is the current deus ex machina of the terror war against the Coalition in Iraq. He is credited with numerous assassinations — including that of an American official, Thomas Foley, in Amman — and suicide bombings, along with the spectacular but little-reported attempt to launch a chemical attack against American targets in Jordan. Secretary of State Colin Powell named him on February 3, 2003, in his speech to the United Nations. Powell reported that Zarqawi had been sighted in Baghdad, where one of his legs had been amputated due to (more…)

A SPASM OF SPITE

In the Monday, June 14, 2004 edition of The Wall Street Journal, Peggy Noonan wrote a despicable hit piece on her fellow speechwriters in the Reagan White House. It was entitled “The Ben Elliott Story,” supposedly a tribute to the White House Chief Speechwriter told in the context of seeing him at President Reagan’s National Cathedral funeral service – yet it ended up being a nauseating attack on her former colleagues.

The people she attacked are my friends, and it so happened that I attended President Reagan’s service with them. That she took this sacred occasion to vindictively smear them (more…)

THE GENIUS OF SHARON

Back in early February, I told you that Ariel Sharon’s purpose in building a Security Fence walling off the “West Bank” was to precipitate a civil war among Palestinian terrorist groups (The Coming Palestinian Civil War, TTP Weekly Report, February 6, 2004). Four months later, we can see Sharon’s strategy is clearly working.

In those intervening months, terrorist attacks are way down while the IDF (Israeli Defense Forces) has relentlessly hunted terrorists down and either killed or stymied them. Hamas has been decapitated. Arafat, sick and dying, finds his grip on power slipping away. Even senior members of (more…)

KERRY HONORED BY VIETNAM COMMUNISTS

There is a photograph prominently displayed in the Vietnamese Communist War Remnants Museum (formerly known as the “War Crimes Museum”) in Saigon (called Ho Chi Minh City by the Communists). The photograph, in a room dedicated to foreign activists who contributed to the Communist victory over America in the Vietnam War, shows Senator John Kerry being greeted by Comrade Do Muoi, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

The picture was taken in mid-July, 1993. Kerry was part of a delegation sent by Bill Clinton to discuss the POW-MIA issue. While it is reasonable that Kerry would seek to (more…)

FORGET THE TRIAL

The most disastrous news to come out of Iraq this week was the demand by the new Iraqi Interim Government for custody of Saddam Hussein. We are reaping the moldy harvest of the American liberal obsession for legalism. All one had to do is see the farce of Slobodan Milosevic’s trial to know what judicial lunacy awaits a similar tribunal travesty for Saddam.

Yet this is suddenly the least of our worries. Turning Saddam over to the Iraqis means he will escape from custody. Through bribery or blackmail or force, the Iraqis will either let him escape or be unable (more…)

WEB SURFING ANONYMIZERS

In the last two weeks I received several emails regarding web surfing anonymizers. These critters are portals through which you surf. They are reputed to prevent the sites you visit from identifying your personal computer.

In the words of one of the more prominent anonymizers, here’s what they claim:

“The software is called GhostSurf Pro. It is designed to protect your personal information from ISPs, websites, other users of your computer, and malicious “spyware” software both while you browse and when you are off line. GhostSurf addresses each potential source of online privacy abuse. By routing your information through anonymous (more…)

REAGAN’S MANDATE

Ronald Reagan was elected in 1980 with a mandate not just to contain communism, which was the U.S. policy since 1947, but to roll it back.
Between 1975 and Regan’s election, Angola, Afghanistan, Laos, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Nicaragua, Somalia and South Vietnam — to name a few — had come under Soviet domination. A Soviet naval base was established on the island of Socotra, capable of intercepting vital shipping in the Persian Gulf and the Red Sea. Many believed that after the Vietnam defeat, the U.S. would lose the Cold War.

Reagan turned everything around. Working with a clear and (more…)

LOVING GORBY

This past week has seen a good many Reaganaut Reunions here in Washington DC. At several of them, we raised our glasses to toast Gorby – Mikhail Gorbachev. All of the Reagan Doctrine guys loved Gorbachev – but not quite in the same way as did the State Department squishes.

Mikhail Gorbachev seemed to burst from nowhere when he became General Secretary of the Soviet Communist Party (CPSU) and leader of the USSR in March of 1985. The liberal media swooned over the smiling suave telegenic Russian – so smart, so sophisticated, so capable of making a shining success of (more…)

TOUCHED TO THE POINT

In 1989 on the eve of the fall of the Berlin Wall, I had a meeting in Prague, Czechoslovakia with a group of Anti-Communists dedicated to ridding their country from Soviet rule. Their leader was Martin Palous, a founder of the Charter 77 democracy movement.

He explained that when he and other Czech intellectuals such as Vaclav Havel formed Charter 77 in 1977, they did so against all hope. “To dream of real freedom for our country was unthinkable,” he said. “The best we could ask is some little bit of light, some small increase of breathing space for us (more…)

BOBAX WORM AND SIMILAR NEW THREATS

The Bobax worm is the latest threat spreading across the internet. It won’t get as far, because millions more users have downloaded the latest Windows security update. I detailed how to do that in a previous column.

On the other hand its more dangerous and will cause more severe damage to your software.

For a lucid rundown and effective instructions on how to deal with the worm and disinfect your computer, read P.C Magazine’s article on it at http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1599409,00.asp . What’s interesting is as of this writing two companies are offering removal tools, but not Symantec, the manufacturer of Norton. (more…)

THE GREAT-SOULED MAN

THE GREAT-SOULED MAN
Jack Wheeler
June 5, 2004

In October of 1965, Ronald Reagan came to speak at UCLA. I was a senior, and it was a depressing time to be a College Republican. Barry Goldwater had been thrashed the previous year, and my professors were so left-wing that I took one to court because of her biased grading.

The UCLA Student Union was packed, SRO. There was a buzz that Reagan was considering running for governor against the entrenched Democrat, Pat Brown. My buddy and fellow CR Bill Anthony and I sat expectantly in the audience. As Reagan began (more…)

A WONDERFUL REGISTRY CLEANER

Those of you who regularly read my column know I’ve been looking for the very best registry cleaner that doesn’t delete important or crucial entries. I’ve discussed this matter in various forums and found one I’m now certain to buy, after testing the trial version.

It can be found at Macecraft Software – http://www.jv16.org/ – and the name of the product is jv16 Power Tools. An odd name but a fine registry cleaner.

Read about it, download the trial version and if you like it as much as I do, buy it.

Before you run any powerful registry cleaner, you (more…)

THE PSYCHOANALYTIC ROOTS OF ISLAMIC TERRORISM

In the battle for Fallujah, terrorists used women and children as human shields against American soldiers. On April 27, 2004, in Jerusalem, Hamas used a Palestinian human bomb to kill two Palestinian alleged “collaborators.” On April 28, 2004, even as UN envoy, Lakhdar Brahimi, was busy characterizing Israeli policy as the “great poison in the region,” Jordanian police arrested Al Qaeda operatives who were quite literally trying to launch a chemical poison attack that might have killed 80,000 Jordanians and Americans. And, on May 1, 2004, in Gaza, Palestinian gunmen shot and killed a Jewish woman who was eight-months pregnant (more…)

THE GLOBALIZATION OF TERRORISM

You will, I hope, recall the heroic death of Fabrizio Quattrocchi on April 14 at the hands of jihadists in Iraq. At the time, the Italian foreign minister revealed that Quattrocchi, clawing at the hood they had placed over his head, cried out, “I will show you how an Italian dies!” Now, thanks to a truly great Italian reporter (and assistant editor of the Corriere della Sera) named Magdi Allam, we know a bit more about the event.

As Quattrocchi tried to remove the hood, he asked, “May I?” At that point, one of his captors replied — in colloquial (more…)
