MORE ON REFORMATTING YOUR HARD DISK

A few weeks ago I discussed many of the precautions a person must take to successfully reformat his or her hard disk and reinstall an operating system and applications. I suggested some procedures and aids.

However, before I reformatted my own hard disk, I did a little thinking. Was I sure I could recover my Outlook address book, folders, and emails? What about my passwords? Was I certain that I could write them all down? Where exactly did Windows store them?

And what about my Windows settings? The screen resolution, the screen saver, and many other tweaks? Same for Outlook, (more…)

AN IMPROBABLE MOLEHUNT

Must be something to do with the hurricanes and typhoons — or maybe it’s the street demos in New York — but it took longer than usual for me to get in touch with my late friend, James Jesus Angleton. The ouija board kept giving me a “no service available” message, but finally I got through. There was a lot of static on the line.

ML: Lots to talk about, huh?

JJA: I’ll say! I knew counterintelligence had been gutted, but I had no idea how bad it was.

ML: Don’t you believe the stories about a mole hunt in (more…)

KERRY LIED RALLY

My good friend and Navy SEAL Commander Capt. Larry Bailey has organized a rally for Vietnam Veterans, their families and friends to protest the presidential candidacy of a man who betrayed his fellow soldiers while he was still in uniform. The Kerry Lied Rally will be at the Washington Mall in Washington DC on Sunday, September 12. Please send this to any friend who might be able to attend. I hope to see you there!

BUSH’S “KILLER AP”

The term “killer ap” is geek-speak for a computer application that blows the doors off any competition. By letting anyone or any company write software programs for Windows rather than keep Windows proprietary to Microsoft, Bill Gates made his product the killer ap that left Apple light years behind. Excel did the same thing for spreadsheet applications.

So when Grover Norquist, head of Americans for Tax Reform, whispers in Karl Rove’s and George Bush’s ears this week at the convention, let’s hope they recognize a political killer ap when they hear one.

Before I go any farther, I want to (more…)

AESCHYLUS AND AMERICA

"Aeschylus and America" is an essay I wrote for a book edited by Rod Martin and released this week, Thank You, President Bush. It is available at Amazon and I encourage you to get a copy. This is a lengthy essay, which may be easily read by clicking on "printer-friendly format" in the top right corner and printing a hard copy. It is a summation of my thoughts on America’s recent history and the choice America faces this November.

HUBRIS AND STUPIDITY

This is a speech I am delivering to the Council For National Policy in New York on the eve of the Republican Convention.

One surefire way to make yourself really stupid is to acquire an overload of what the Greeks called hubris, the overweening pride that leads to one’s doom. The ancient Greeks had observed time and again the causal connection between hubris and stupidity. If they were with us today, they would tell us that anyone possessed of this self-destructive synthesis needs psychiatric counseling instead of trying to be President of the United States.

If there is (more…)

KERRY’S 1971 HATE-AMERICA BOOK NOW ONLINE FOR FREE

John Kerry’s 1971 screed against America, The New Soldier, written when he was the leader of Vietnam Veterans Against the War and testifying in Congress that his “band of brothers” (as he calls them now) were war criminals, is available in its entirety online at http://johnkerrythenewsoldier.blogspot.com/.

You can download and read the whole book for free. Also free are three chapters of John O’Niells bestseller, Unfit for Command. If you know anyone wavering on Kerry, send them the link.

A HERO IN ALASKA

Alaska’s Frank Murkowski has my nomination for the most courageous governor in the US. Sick and tired of spineless Washington Republicans unable to overcome the religious worship of the Alaska tundra by Democrats and Eco-Fascists, Murkowski has announced oil and gas lease sales for offshore drilling in the Beaufort Sea off the coast of ANWR (the sacred and holy Alaska National Wildlife Refuge).

These waters are state property – not the property of the federales who have no jurisdiction. The beauty of Murkowski’s decision is that it includes allowing slantline drilling in the waters of all 425 miles of coastline (more…)

BLUETOOTH SECURITY

Radio-wave frequency communication between computers and other devices is increasing and is almost certain to continue increasing. Throughout the first world and in much of the third world transmission stations, antennas and other infrastructure that encourages wireless communication are being steadily put into place.

Even Jerusalem is scheduled to be ‘wi-fied’ within two years, including the Arab neighborhoods. The Arab League considers such unregulated access a threat:

Cairo, August 24(SANA-Official Syrian News Agency): www.sana.org/english/headlines/24-8/arab_league1.htm

In the words of IMRA (Israel Media Review and Analysis):

[IMRA: A joint initiative by the Municipality of Jerusalem, Intel and Compumat Computers Ltd., together with the Jerusalem Business Development Authority, may turn the Holy City into the world’s first wireless fidelity (WiFi) city within two years. Users in most areas of the city will be able to surf the Internet wirelessly.]

HUGO CHAVEZ’S THUGS CELEBRATE THEIR VICTORY BY SHOOTING MY MOTHER

CARACAS, Venezuela — On Monday afternoon, August 16, dozens of people assembled in the Altamira Plaza, a public square in a residential neighborhood here that has come to symbolize nonviolent dissent in Venezuela. The crowd was there to question the accuracy of the results that announced a triumph for President Hugo Chávez in Sunday’s recall referendum.

Within one hour of the gathering, just over 100 of Lt. Col. Chávez’s supporters, many of them brandishing his trademark army parachutist beret, began moving down the main avenue towards the crowd in the square. Encouraged by their leader’s victory, this bully-boy group had (more…)

WHO WILL PROTECT US FROM TERRORISM? IT’S THAT SIMPLE

[A review of Hugh Hewitt’s book, If It’s Not Close They Can’t Cheat , originally posted on Amazon.]

The results of this year’s presidential election boil down to one simple question: does America want to win the war against terrorism? The choice between the two political parties will determine the answer. All other issues are beside the point if we cannot defend ourselves. If America votes Republican, it chooses to keep up the fight and America will win. Should it vote Democrat, America will suffer unspeakable loss of life and liberty because the Democrats won’t take the fight to our terrorist enemies.

Given the high stakes involved, everyone who cares about the country’s defense should get this book. (more…)

CAPITALISM IN IRAQ

Gaylan King is Director of Security & Business Development for Gulfconsultec, Ltd., a business consulting firm based in Kuwait. I think you’ll his description of doing business in Iraq fascinating -JW

It is Wednesday, August 11, 2004, 2:34pm. We have just returned from a week of traveling in Iraq. We exited just as the current troubles were starting last Friday by actually driving through a small firefight in Basra before we realized what was happening.

I looked to my right just in time to see someone wrapped in the red and white checkered headscarf, with only his eyes showing, let (more…)

THE IRANIAN FOUNT OF TERRORISM

The Washington Post on August 14 had an article that quotes the usual unnamed intelligence sources saying that they are surprised to discover that al Qaeda has “reconstitute[d]” itself. This surprise derives from, inter alia, the computer data found recently in Pakistan, intelligence sources (both ours and friends’), and simply looking at the range of activities in which the terrorists engage.

This surprise is, as usual, unsettling, since it has been quite clear for some time now that al Qaeda and the other major terrorist groups — Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad, Hamas, Jamaa, etc. — are all working together, and (more…)

SEARCHING FOR SERVICE

In driving around the country over the past year with my 12 year-old son Jackson to complete his Nifty Fifty quest (to experience and learn something memorable in each of all 50 states), I’ve noticed two things. First is the proliferation of cell phone towers that have sprouted everywhere – and second, how few of them are connected to Sprint.

From the beaches of Oregon to the farmlands of Iowa, from the shores of Maine to the Gulf Coast of Alabama, from literally scores and scores of locations across the breadth and width of the US, my Sprint phone blinks (more…)

AL JOLSON IN OCTOBER

All indications are that the Swiftees’ offensive against Hanoi John is severely damaging the Kerry/Edwards candidacy. The television ads by the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth and the #1 bestseller on Amazon, Unfit For Command, have credibly assaulted the basis for Kerry’s campaign: that his self-proclaimed status as a “war hero” during 4 months in Vietnam qualify him to be President of the United States.

However… in the famous words of Al Jolson: “You ain’t heard nothin’ yet.” The Swiftees have prepared an October Surprise for Hanoi John that is going to blow his candidacy out of the water. (more…)
