Intruders Change Their Tactics

Last week’s column ended with a promise:

“Next week we can discuss further issues, such as what course of action to take if an intruder is a dialer. You sure don’t want expensive calls made to porn sites off your computer.”

I’m going to break that promise.

In the last two weeks I’ve received fewer intruders attempting to invade my computer through my email. For months I had been getting 10 to 15 messages a day like the following:

Who Bombed Madrid And Other Interesting Questions

According to a usually reliable French investigator and author, Spanish authorities are now convinced that the Madrid massacre was organized by our old friend, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. Zarqawi has also been credited for being one of the major organizers of the terror war against the Coalition in Iraq, and was named by Secretary of State Colin Powell in his presentation to the Security Council prior to Operation Iraqi Freedom as a key al Qaeda leader, with ties to the Saddam Hussein regime in Iraq.

A busy and very wicked man, in short.

As memories are short, let’s review the bidding (more…)

FALLUJAH DELENDA EST

In the Senate of Ancient Rome, Marcus Porcius Cato – 234-149 BC, subsequently known as Cato the Elder to distinguish him from his great-grandson Cato the Younger – became famous for concluding every single speech he gave, no matter what the subject, with the exhortation: Carthago delenda est. Carthage must be destroyed.

Today, we need Senators and Congressmen to conclude every speech they give with the exhortation: Fallujah delenda est. Fallujah must be destroyed.

I don’t mean metaphorically. I mean for the entire population of the city, every man, woman, and child, given 24 hours to leave and be dispersed (more…)

Fallujah Payback

The US military has promised “an overwhelming response” in retaliation for the Fallujah Atrocity of March 30. “Coalition forces will respond,” the U.S. army’s deputy director of operations Brigadier General Mark Kimmitt told a news conference. “They are coming back and they are going to hunt down the people responsible for this bestial act. “It will be at a time and a place of our choosing. It will be methodical, it will be precise and it will be overwhelming.”

Here’s a way to begin.

You take a Humvee and set it up to be remote-driven. You place a dozen Claymore (more…)

MEXICO AS TAKFIRISTAN

The Moslem terrorists who bombed the Madrid trains last month are members of an Islamic movement called Takfir wal Hijra (Repentance and Migration). Originally formed in Egypt in the 1970s as part of Iqwan Muslimi (The Moslem Brotherhood), it was responsible for the assassination of Anwar Sadat in 1981, and scores of savage atrocities in Algeria. The organizer of the Madrid terrorism, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, is a Takfir. (See Michael Ledeen’s column on Zarqawi in this week’s TTP report.)

The Takfiris are now leading a “reorganized” Al Qaeda as the main Islamic threat to the West. For not only do (more…)

A Letter To My Friends

Sometimes, when I’m weary of the intifada, the occasional terror attacks, the stumbling economy or the political scandals that seem to dominate the public agenda in Israel, I look at the weekend’s newspaper magazines and start to breathe again.

Take this weekend. If you are a theatergoer, and you live in Tel Aviv, you can choose one of the 38 plays now running (and I’m not counting the fringe theaters). It could be Edward Albee’s A Delicate Balance, The Vagina Monologues, Camus’ The Fall, Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams and many others, all played in Hebrew to full houses. (more…)

WHY DOES KARL ROVE WANT TO LOSE CALIFORNIA?

That’s the question conservative California Republicans are angrily demanding an answer to. Because there is no doubt in their minds that Karl Rove, the guy who runs GW’s election campaigns, is behaving as if he intentionally wants his boss to lose the Golden State in November.

Rove seems determined to keep repeating the pattern of Republican presidential defeats since 1992. In that year, Bush 41 abandoned California, giving up on a state Ronald Reagan carried overwhelmingly twice and which he had won himself four years earlier. Thus California was lost and Clinton was president.

It was worse in 1996. While (more…)

CORTEZ AND BAMBI

Contrary to what you have been told all your life, history is not written by the victors. If this were true, why, then, is there not a single statue of Hernando Cortez in Mexico City?

History is made by the victors, but it is the poets who write it. Spain – and Mexico’s – great tragedy is that there never was a Spanish Homer who immortalized the monumental heroism of Cortez. Instead, the Spanish got a smart-aleck novelist, Miguel Cervantes, who ridiculed Spanish heroic values in Don Quixote. It has been downhill for Spain ever since.

The epic crusade of (more…)

To The Point Salutes Congressman Rohrabacher and US troops in Iraq

To The Point salutes Congressman Dana Rohrabacher, who issued the following press release in response to Israel’s targeting Hamas leader Ahmed Yassin:

(Washington, D.C.) Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (CA-46), who at times has been critical of Israel, supports the killing of Sheikh Ahmed Yassin. “The Israeli attack focused specifically on the head of Hamas, a terrorist organization that has claimed responsibility for slaughtering innocent civilians,” Rohrabacher said. “No one on either side of this conflict should target women, children, and the elderly.”
“Killing a murderer like Sheikh Ahmed Yassin makes noncombatants safer because it eliminates one threat and sends a message (more…)

Pat Buchanan’s Catch-22

Pat Buchanan’s Catch-22. The former presidential candidate these days is in a real bind. He can’t decide between his putative love for America or his hatred of Jews and Israel. In his attack on David Frum and Richard Perle’s book An End to Evil: How to Win the War on Terror (“No End to War,” American Conservative, March 1, 2004), Pat asks, what has Hamas, Syria, or Saudi Arabia ever done to us? “Al Qaeda is our enemy, not Syria or Saudi Arabia,” he claims, neither of which “had anything to do with 9/11.” Evidently, any enemy of Israel should, (more…)

PALESTINIANS AND THE PASSION

Palestinians and The Passion. The most interesting thing, politically, about Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ, is all the Palestinians.

What’s that? There aren’t any Palestinians in the movie? Not one? Exactly. There are Romans, there are Jews – but 2,000 years ago there were no Palestinians.

1,300 years ago, Arabs conquered the land between the Jordan and the Mediterranean, seizing it from the people who lived there – Jews and Christians – forcing them to become either Moslems or Dhimmis (second-class citizens, like Blacks in the Jim Crow South).

Yet in all those 1,300 years since, not (more…)

Adware, Spyware, Malware – Protection vs. the drain on your computers resources

The three words are normally used interchangeably. They all refer to intruders placed on your computer as you surf the web. Adware is usually a cookie placed in your C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Cookies folder when you visit a website. It tracks your browsing habits and arranges ads to pop-up on your screen when you open certain sites. Sometimes they appear on your screen when you aren’t browsing, and sometimes they arrange emails to be sent you advertising certain products. The products may be financial, pharmaceutical, sexual, or other.

Sometimes the intrusions are controls in your Windows/System32 directory, or entries into your (more…)

TORRICELLI JOHN

Remember Robert Torricelli? He was one of the biggest crooks ever to infest the United States Senate (and that’s really saying something, isn’t it?). How crooked was he? “The Torch” was so crooked that… (Johnny Carson drum roll please…) he was too crooked even for New Jersey.

The investigations of his taking bribes reached such a fever pitch that in late September of 2002, with less than five weeks before the election, he resigned and gave up his run for re-election. New Jersey law was quite specific that this was too late for the Democrat Party to nominate a replacement. (more…)

Drifting, Dangerously

ROME, ITALY — There are two competing explanations for the Spanish vote on Sunday: Either the Spaniards were intimidated by the terrorists, or they punished Aznar for trying to trick them into thinking it was the Basques, when he had strong evidence that the jihadists were involved.

I rather think it was the latter — it would be hard for me to think of Spaniards as easily intimidated — but whichever is correct, the political consequences are the same. The terror masters believe that they have successfully toppled a Western government by the use of force, and that will encourage (more…)

THE DOOM OF RUSSIA

Last week, Vladimir Putin was re-elected President of Russia with over 70% of the vote. Does this portend the re-animation of the Soviet Russian Empire, led by a man with an unchallenged grip on power, possessed with a deep nostalgia for the glory days of the USSR, and determined to bring back those days again?

No, it means that Russia has taken itself out of the global game. It means that Russia has no future. It means that Russia is resolutely determined to screw itself.

Monopolies of power rarely work in today’s world – especially ossified ones. Putin may look (more…)
